Headache is pain in any part of the head. Headaches are quite common these days especially among adults due the increased level of stress, lack of sleep or dietary habits. Many people prefer taking painkillers to treat headaches and others might prefer going the natural way.
Some of the natural and inexpensive ways to treat headaches are:
Massage your temples and forehead using circular motions moving to your scalp. This will improve blood circulation and helps in relaxing your mind. One can also try using some essential oils like peppermint oil or lavender oil for massaging scalp to get rid of headache.
Most of the time the main reason behind the headache is: stress, overwork or lack of sleep. Taking a few hours nap will help a lot in getting rid of headache.
This is an age old way to get relief against stomachache or headache. Ginger contains anti-inflammatory properties and tea contains caffeine that helps a lot to get rid of headache. If you don’t like tea, you can also try boiling ginger in hot water. After the water cools down keep taking small sips throughout the day.
Dehydration could be the cause of headache. Just grab yourself a glass of filtered water. You can also try taking some fruit juice. Also, keep a water bottle handy so you never forget to drink water at regular intervals.
Apply a cloth soaked in icy-cold water on your forehead for a minute and again soak the cloth in icy-cold water and put it on your forehead. Repeat this process a few times. This will numb the pain giving relief from headache.
Caffeine contains pain relieving properties that will fight against headache. But remember sometimes over intake of caffeine might cause headaches.

Regular exercise reduces stress. Even a 10-15 minute walk daily in the open can help a lot with headaches.
Alcohol especially red wine, cheese, pizza, processed meat and foods containing Monosodium glutamate (MSG) may trigger headaches. The natural way to prevent headache is to avoid excessive intake of these foods.
Peppermint has calming effects. You can try peppermint oil to massage you temples and forehead. Second option is to take steam by putting a few drops in boiling water. Keep your face at some distance so that you don’t burn your face.
