Yoga is a mental and physical discipline which has been originated in India. When there is yoga there is no impurity, ignorance, or injustice. Every year the international yoga day is celebrated on 21st of June. On 11th of December this day was recognised internationally by the United Nations General Assembly. Our honourable prime minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi advised 21st of June as an international yoga day because it is the protracted day of the year in northern moiety also has a peculiar connotation in many parts of the world. Before the declaration of June 21st as a yoga day many formal and informal yoga teachers used to celebrate yoga day on various other dates. A proposal for the observing world yoga day was made at the conference organised in the art of living international centre. The conference was about yoga as a key to world reconciliation which was organised by the art of living foundation, VYASA University in Bangalore and the yoga Portuguese confederation of Lisbon and Portugal.
However, the idea of observing world yoga day had been originated in 2001 by a large number of yoga gurus endorsing it for the very first time. Deelipji on 21st of June 2015 inaugurated the opening ceremony of world yoga day community. A non profit organisation in New York namely world yoga community aims at promoting yogic teachings worldwide. This day was declared after the suggestion for the adoption of June 21st as world yoga day by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his arrival in the UN general assembly on 27th September, 2014. Indian mission at the United Nations, New York had also organised an event and invited our external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj to participate in this event. PM, Modi had deployed his ministers to participate in the event across the world. While everyone was in favour of this day, The All India Muslim Personal Law Board asserted against Surya Namaskar being not in favour of the Islamic religion and was worried about the ‘Hindu Agenda’ at work. To protect the rights of this religion, Surya Namaskar was removed from official yoga program. The government was reciting the ‘Shalokas’ during yoga day, but it was not compulsory for Muslims to participate in the event. Then the minister of AYUSH, Mr. Shripad Naik said that Muslims can take the name of Allah instead of reciting ‘Shalokas’ during the event.
